I work in rural water supply, but I spend a lot of my time thinking about and studying other issues, many relating to economics. This blog is my vehicle for expressing and sharing some of these ideas, and hearing what other people think about them. Increasingly I’m also using is as a place to talk about rural water supply direction.
Some posts worth checking out:
The 2nd Tragedy of International Development: An article I wrote a while ago that got some pretty positive feedback.
30%+ Non-Functionality? Think again.: Using a look at statistics to try to debunk some common myths about handpump breakdown rates.
“Appropriate” Technology: My thoughts on what should really be considered “appropriate” technology, outlined through a conversation about rural water supply technology with a blog reader from the USA.
Guilt: Pretty much every financially wealthy person working in a developing country faces this at some point.
The Playpump III: My posts on the playpump built up a lot of momentum. Some of them (like the interviews) I published pretty mechanistically, just trying to keep the conversation going. This one, however, I thought was something special. I liked it because it did more than just talk about one specific type of water supply technology, but also provided an interesting look at a key issue in development: “inquiry as intervention“. Take a look if you have a chance.
Lessons from Laundry: Something I wrote quickly that ended up getting some positive feedback. Looking back, gotta say I like the post.
